LUNCH AND TRANSPORTATION

Breakfast and lunch are served at several ASHS sites.  ASHS students who qualify (based on N.Y. C. Dept. of Ed. Guidelines) receive metrocards for travel to and from school.

ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL)

For some ASHS students, English is not the home or primary language.  To meet the needs of these students, many ASHS sites offer ESL classes.  ESL students develop written and oral proficiency in English and progress to gain knowledge in the content areas.   ASHS Excel Program offers after school instruction for ESL students who plan to take the SAT exams.

ASHS Saturday SAT Program at Manhattan Learning Center

ASHS sponsors a district-wide SAT Prep Program at the Manhattan Learning Center location.  Instructors are Kaplan-trained and we use the Kaplan created instructional materials.  This ten-week course which includ es a pre and post test, prepares students for the June exam.  Guidance services are also available.

COUNSELING SERVICES

Guidance counselors and social workers are available to help students with their academic, social and emotional development.  Students are able to get help not only with applying for the GED test, but also applying colleges and financial aid.
