Carnival for Cures

By Yobanna Cruz

Every year the schools of New York City are mandated by the Chancellor to have some type of event, which will inform the students about HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases. This year our school decided to do a carnival for cures. There were about fourteen booths with signs, games and entertainment in the gym, organized by Mrs. Sanacore, the National Honor Society, student council, and the drama class. The students bought tickets for 50 cents each and played games. If they won they got a prize and then had to answer a question about STDs.

In between the games there were dances performed by the students. Mr. Robinson also danced, salsa, he impressed everyone with his amazing dancing talent. It is nice to see some dancing talent from the teachers.

Mrs. Sanacore, the National Honor Society, student council, and the drama class did a great job putting together this event. The students learned about the importance of safe sex and about sexually transmitted diseases (what causes them and how to prevent them) in a fun and safe way. I hope we do this again next year, it was very informative and, at the same time, fun.
