General Description

The Equalities and Inequalities cluster is an interdisciplinary course that studies Equalities and Inequalities created by humans and seen in nature. In the American History Class, students study Equalities and Inequalities in the United States from 1800-1865. Students examine labor and gender in the U.S. during this historical period. They also study the Civil War, slavery, and industrialization. More importantly the interrelation of these topics is examined. In English Class, students read different types of texts. They conduct research on historical topics related to the theme of Equalities and Inequalities. They then write a formal essay with the information gathered.

Throughout the semester, students experiment with different forms of narratives. Special attention is given to the reading and writing of historical fiction. Students read and write short stories related to the theme of Equalities and Inequalities. They also do a long term project on historical novel of their choosing. In Chemistry class students learn about the foundations of chemical structures, states of matter, and energy transfers. Students also explore chemistry through lab experiments and discover the properties and laws applied to chemical formulas. In the Health class, students explore the chemicals existing in the human body and everyday products. Students also have the opportunity to explore relationships and different forms of communication. In Art class, students utilize a variety of artistic materials to express ideas on the theme Equalities and Inequalities. Students explore the theme of Equalities and Inequalities in their own lives and in the world around them. Students use a variety of materials to further develop their artistic skills. These materials include plaster, aluminum, colored paper and paints.
