Throughout the five boroughs, the NYCVTC has sites which focus on various construction-related skills. Students completing the building trades course of study have demonstrated knowledge, skills and competencies in: floor tiling, drywall construction,framing, plastering, basic electrical installation, plumbing, carpentry, furniture refinishing, painting, furniture refurbishing, building maintenance, etc. Additionally, student can identify appropriate tools and materials, estimate material, costs, time and labor for projects. Students also are trained to use power tools safely and effectively using proper technique. Implementing trade-related skills such as how to measure, mark and cut materials, assembly of plates and studs, use of level, screw gun, hammer, importance of keeping work area clean, communication with co-workers and working safely offer VTC students the opportunity to develop marketable skills.
