Chairside Dental Assisting

New York City Vocational Training Center dental assisting program is located at Jamaica Hospital, Queens. As a full immersion program, students are assigned to dental residents. Each day students are involved in activities that include, but not limited to, preparing tray setups, mixing dental and laboratory materials, exposing and developing radiographs, four-handed dentistry and disinfecting and sterilization techniques. Other areas of dentisry that are covered during the students time with VTC include legal and ethical aspects, dental theory and sciences, dental anatomy, universal precautions, infection control guidelines, hazardous materials guidelines, oral evacuation and instrument transfer, dental procedure, dental cements and laboratory materials, and dental emergencies. A student completing the course of study with a passing grade on their academic and clinical performance, will receive a Board of Education Certificate of Competency in Chairside Dental Assisting. Graduates from our Dental Assisting Program have pursued successful careers in this field of great opportunities. Many of our graduates are employed at Interfaith Medical Center, Jamaica Hospital, other dental clinics, as well as private dental practices.
