Dear Students:

Welcome to Form I Humanities at Wings Academy! This class will explore the literature and history of the many cultures of Africa, Latin America, Europe, the Americas and Asia in order to answer our essential question: How does geography affect the development and interaction of the cultures of the world?More importantly, this class will teach you to use your minds well.We will be doing exciting work and undergoing tremendous growth this year.Much of what you do in the classroom this year, will involve learning together in groups and teaching each other.You will also work alone, accomplishing more independently than you have ever imagined you could!

����������� The following is a guide to what is expected of you. YOU AND YOUR GUARDIANS MUST SIGN THE NEXT PAGE SO I KNOW YOU BOTH UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING THIS YEAR.

Required Materials:

  • small pair of scissors
  • One Composition notebook
  • Pens and pencils with erasers
  • Two 3 1/2 inch computer disks and case
  • Dictionary and thesaurus

GRADING POLICY:

NOTEBOOK (15%)

� You must bring your notebook to class. Failure to do so will result in a loss of points.
� You will be taking notes and completing assignments your notebook on a daily basis. Your notebook will help you organize the information you are learning.
� Notebooks will be graded regularly. I will look for quality and thoroughness.

DO NOW (10%)

� During the first five minutes of the class, you will be required to complete a �DO NOW� to help focus on the day�s lesson.
� Do Now�s cannot be made up, so BE ON TIME!!!
� Do Now�s are graded on a 10 point scale daily; ( 10, 8, 6)

CLASS PARTICIPATION (15%)

� In this classroom, everyone is both a teacher and a learner. It is important that I hear from everyone
All questions are encouraged.I may not always know the answer, but we can try and find it together.
� Every time you participate you will receive points. These points will contribute to your semester grade.
� You must come to class prepared (notebook, pens, etc.) Failure to do so will result in a loss of points for the day.
� You must participate in College Now activities and trips.

PROJECTS (30%)

� Projects are used to determine your mastery of a particular topic.
� The length of the projects may vary.
� Projects are graded on a 100 point or A-F scale.
� Failure to hand in projects by the assigned due date will result in a loss of points for the day.
� All College Nowprojects must be completed.

EXAMS/QUIZZES (10%)

� Quizzes and tests will be announced.
� Quizzes and tests only represent a portion of the work.

HOMEWORK (20%)

� Homework is assigned on a regular basis.
� You will have a current event assignments due every Monday.
� You must complete all College Nowhomework activities
� Homework is graded on a 10 point scale: (10, 8, 6)

 

ABSENCES

Being absent is not a valid excuse for missed work. You must make up any missed work including your notes.
� You are responsible for a calling a classmate to ask what went on in class and finding out about any assignments.
� Two latenesses of 8 minutes or more = 1 absence
� 10 absences per semester or 20 for the year = failure of the course due to missed work.
