Creative Arts Team and West Side 2003

Weve spent a lot of time on theatre games and improvisation. Weve performed short scenes. We wrote our own poems using language from famous poets and had our own impromptu Def Poetry Jam. A few of our poems follow...

Based on Fire and Ice by Robert Lee Frost By Jose Rivera...

I, in that fire, tasted enough ice

that I also hate and know the world will perish twice

If in a great desire

I hold enough destruction to some end

that those desires will perish the world twice

enough hate would say to the world

destruction is enough ice to perish the world twice

and in the end the world would say

I, in that fire tested enough ice

that I hold destruction in great favor twice...

By David Fabre...

I hold great hate

I would think

know enough to desire

the world to end

Destruction would suffice

I hate enough to perish twice

Fire to ice Ive tasted

had enough...

By Alexis Negron

I will fire

I desire hate

Hate destruction

the world of ice

I will suffice and perish

the world, the hate and the great taste

of destruction

Enough is enough......

WNYE and West Side 2003

June 2003 : "TEEN PREGNANCY" and "WAR"

Weve been writing and performing short radio spots about contemporary issues. The following is our debate that took place before the war with Iraq.

SHOULD THE UNITED STATES GO TO WAR WITH IRAQ? A: GEORGE BUSH WANTS US TO GO TO WAR WITH IRAQ. HE WANTS US AS A NATION TO SUPPORT HIM.

THIS WAR CRY IS MAKING ME UNEASY, UNCOMFORTABLE. I DONT WANT DIRTY BOMBS DROPPING ON THE HOOD. IS IT OUR DUTY AS AMERICANS TO ATTACK IRAQ AND DESTROY THEIR WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION? WE SHOULD JUST GO IN ASSASSINATE HIM FOR HIS PEOPLE AND FOR WORLD PEACE.... THERE ARE LOTS OF DANGEROUS DICTATORS OUT THERE. ARE YOU GOING TO REMOVE THEM ALL?

IS IT OUR MORAL RESPONSIBILITY TO HELP DEFENSELESS PEOPLE UNDER TYRANNY?

MANY AMERICANS REMAIN PERPLEXED ABOUT WHAT MR. BUSH IS DOING AND WHY HE IS DOING IT. OTHERS WONDER IF WE HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL ANOTHER 9/11 TO ACT... I FEEL STRONGLY AGAINST THIS WAR, ESPECIALLY WITH FRANCE, CHINA, AND RUSSIA NOT SUPPORTING US. THE PEOPLE OF IRAQ HAVE LIVED UNDER THIS DICTATOR FOR SO LONG. THEY CANNOT DO IT BY THEMSELVES....WHO MADE THE USA THE POLICEMEN OF THE WORLD?..WHAT ABOUT THE UNITED NATIONS? ...WE FEEL IT IS THE LAST HOPE OF HUMANITY. THE LAST HOPE OF ORDER.
