No clues. Checked all of the numbered messages files. I found that one of
the logons I created under KDE worked (guest with guest as passwd). So I
deleted all logons with the KDE utility. It was very sloppy deleting some
user directories and not others. Learned much about .dot files wiping all
user directories by hand and then recreated a bunch of new users. some can
logon from console, others can't. root still cannot. I tried changing
the passwd; it didn't work. looks like I found a bug.
Anyway . . .
Got 2 machines to recognize their NICs, I set-up one as a server, exporting
several directories. rpcinfo -p shows all the NFS daemons
running, exportfs shows those exported directories. I can ping each
machine from the other, however when I try to mount the exported
directories I get this message:
mount: RPC: Unable to receive; errno = Connection refused
I have copies of the server's exports file, and output that show stuff is
working?? I think I'm stuck.
BTW. The server is running Debian and the host client is running Red Hat
(the machine with the logon problem. I'm going to take a break and play
with printing and sendmail for a while.
