We are still looking for a math teacher for our amazing middle school.=A0 I=

Brooklyn School for Collaborative Studies is going into its third year and=

will graduate its first class in June 2004.=A0 It grew out of the Brooklyn =
New=20
School and many of our students (well over half of the incoming sixth grade=
) are=20
BNS graduates.=A0 We are a diverse community that values equity.=A0 Our cla=
sses=20
are heterogeneous and students are admitted by lottery (particularly unusua=
l in=20
middle school).=A0 Highlights include a schoolwide student-run radio statio=
n=20
(WBCS), fully integrated technology program (wireless iBooks used in all=20
curricular areas), project based learning, collaborative planning and work =
among=20
staff, a student government that really helps create school policy, a peer=
=20
mediation program, a developing affiliation with NY City Expeditionary Lear=
ning=20
Outward Bound, a stellar staff, and an engaged parent body.=A0 We are a fed=
eral magnet=20
school and our theme is intergenerational learning.=A0 All of our students =
do=20
community service and many have outside internships.=A0 Currently we are al=

developing a project with Urban Farmers to set up, in Red Hook, a community=

garden plot for our school.=A0 As well, we have established parterships wit=
h Elders=20
Share the Arts, Brooklyn Arts Exchange and PASE (Partnership for Afterschoo=

Education).=A0
Our students (the real draw) come from all over Brooklyn (and next year fro=
m=20
Manhattan and Queens and Staten Island too).=A0 Over 60% are entitled to fr=
ee or=20
reduced price meals.=A0 About 50% are African American, 25% Latino, 6% Asia=
n=20
and 19% other.=A0 In order to come to our school, they must select it as th=
eir=20
first choice.=A0
