JOB POSTING
Job Title: Regional Parent Support Officer
Civil Service Title: Community Coordinator
Salary Range: $42,500 - $56,917
The Regional Parent Support Officer will work closely with school-based
Parent Coordinators to help assist them in creating a welcoming
environment for parents in schools. The Regional Parent Support Officer
will report to the Regional Parent Support Team Leader. He/she will
identify and respond to parent-related issues and work with principals
and school-based Parent Coordinators to see they are addressed in a
timely manner. 
Duties and Responsibilities
<sum> Increases parent involvement in schools by working closely with school-
based Parent Coordinators.
<sum> Tracks and responds to parent concerns and issues.
<sum> Serves as problem solver and facilitator for parent concerns and issues
that are brought or elevated to the regions.
<sum> Plans and develops parent engagement-related workshops for school-based
Parent Coordinators.
<sum> Serves as coach/mentor to school-based Parent Coordinators.
<sum> Compiles resource materials related to issues in parent engagement;
disseminates materials on a regular basis to the Parent Coordinators.
<sum> Visits individual schools on a regular basis to provide support and
guidance to school-based Parent Coordinators.
<sum> Organizes region-based parent conferences in order to foster networking
amongst parents.
Minimum Selection Criteria
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college and three to five years of
experience in community work in an area related to the duties described
above; or an Associate degree or its educational equivalent and four to
six years of experience in community work in an area related to the
duties described above is preferred. 
OR
A high school diploma and six to eight years of experience in community
work in an area related to the duties described above.
The following qualifications are preferred for the position:
<sum> Master's degree in Education, Social Work, Administration or related field
<sum> Familiarity with the New York City public school system
<sum> Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills
<sum> Excellent problem-solving skills
<sum> Highly organized
<sum> Experience with convening workshops
<sum> Bilingual 
<sum> Experience working with families and parents in community and/or
education related  issues
