Tteres: Puppet Show at PS 176

Written by W. Frackelton on 05-20-2003

Students of Spanish bringing puppets to Washington Heights.

Students from Landmark's Bilingual Spanish class have put together a remarkable performance of Federico Garcia Lorca's play, "The Shoemaker's Wife." They will be bringing the play to the Washington Heights community on Wednesday, June 4th, in front of an audience of third graders at PS 176. Several of the students performing actually attended this public school, so it will be a kind of homecoming. Landmark has worked with two teacher-artists, Roberto Rossi and Jenny Romaine, from the Great Small Works theater company, to create their own unique version of the play. Karla Ovalle, one of the directors, has even written her own act, giving the ending a new twist. For a glimpse into the puppet makers' shop, click here.
