PSATs Come to Landmark

Written by Daisy Fontanez on 10-14-2003

On Tuesday, October 21, 2003, the PSAT/NMSQT will be administered to sophomores and juniors at Landmark High School from 12:30 pm to approximately 3:15 pm. An informational brochure with sample questions was distributed to each student in senior institute advisories.

What is the PSAT? It is a standardized test taken by sophomores and juniors around the country to familiarize themselves with the SAT. Many college admission departments look at the SAT scores when evaluating prospective students; the opportunity to take a practice SAT test can be very helpful preparation.

Why should my child take the PSAT? By taking the PSAT as a sophomore and again early in their junior year, you and your child will get an idea about how he or she would do on the real SAT. The results of the PSAT are NOT sent to colleges. Rather, they are for your benefit. The scores from the sophomore year may help students identify areas they wish to work on. They may also be used to gain entrance to college courses at Hunter and John Jay Colleges while the students are in high school. For juniors, doing very well on the PSAT may qualify them as a National Merit Scholar, an honor that will help later in getting scholarship money to fund a college education.

Cost: The exam fee is waived this year however we only have sixty seats.

If you have any questions, please be in touch with the students advisor, with Daisy Fontanez in the College Office.

Sincerely,

Daisy Fontanez
