Legends are 2-0!

Written by Erik Shold on 12-02-2003

After a turkey-induced slow start, Legends pull out a victory at LaGuardia.

The first quarter was not pretty. Slowed by a long weekend of turkey leftovers, both teams looked lethargic and turnover-prone. After 8 minutes of play, the score was a mere 8-7 in favor of the Legends.

The pace picked up a little, but the Legends looked a step slower than usual as the lead went back and forth. The Legends were paced by Antonio Matos, who made it to the free-throw line 13 times and had 19 points. Gerald Fielleteau added 17 for Landmark.

In the end, it was the big men who made the difference for Landmark. Cecil Browning came off the bench to score 5 his 8 points in the fourth quarter. Kirk Miller hit some key free throws, then made a huge defensive stop by drawing a charge in the final minutes of the game. Gerald sealed the victory by hitting the first of two free throws, then getting his own rebound off the second shot and scoring to put the game out of reach for LaGuardia.

This puts the Legends at 2-0 in league games and 4-1 overall. Their next game is Thursday at 4:00 against University Neighborhood at Basketball City.
