Written by Erik Shold on 01-20-2004

The Boys Basketball Team heads into an important week tied with Leadership for first place.

Last time the Legends played MVA, the game came down to a controversial foul call at the buzzer. Jihad hit the second of two free throws to lift Landmark to a 90-89 victory.

This time, there would be no last second drama as the Legends jumped out to a 21-7 first quarter lead. They led by up to 29 points in the first half, and ended the half with a 45-21 lead.

MVA made a run in the second half, but the Legends held on to their lead, thanks to solid rebounding by Jihad, assists by Angel, and scoring from Antonio and Gerald.

Scoring Stats:

Angel 2, 10 assists

Antonio 34

Cecil 6, 5 rebounds

Gerald 17, 6 rebounds

Jihad 20, 15 rebounds

Kenneth 2, 4 rebounds

Kirk 6, 4 rebounds

On Saturday, the Legends advanced in the standings without even putting on their sneakers. Leadership, the only team that beat Landmark this year, lost on Saturday to LaGuardia. This puts Landmark and Leadership in a tie for first place at 12 - 1.

Today (Tuesday), Landmark faces 4th place Chelsea (9 - 5) and tomorrow they play 3rd place Economics (10 - 4). This is a key week and could lead to a showdown with Leadership in the last regular season game next Saturday.
