Summer opportunities

It is about this time of year when possibilities for summer work, travel, and educational experiences begin coming in to schools. Dear Students, Families and Staff,

It is about this time of year when possibilities for summer work, travel, and educational experiences begin coming in to schools. What young people choose to do with their summers is an important factor in college admissions. People who make decisions about who to accept into college often look at how people use their summers as an indication of how serious those people are about using their time well.

Here are some interesting possibilities:

1. The 2002 Science Research Training Program. An 8 week summer science research internship that is designed to reinforce students interest in science, introduce them to real world scientific research and develop technical and critical thinking skills.

2. For students who have an interest in becoming a lawyer the Manhattan District Attorneys Office has a summer internship program called LEGAL BOUND. Students learn about the law and the work of the DAs office.

3. The zoos of NYC hire students to work during the summer. Many different kinds of jobs and many levels of work and salaries. Youngest workers are 14 years old.

4. Carleton College in Minnesota has a wonderful program especially designed for African American High School sophmores. Free room, board, tuition and travel. For students who have completed their sophmore year.

If any of these are interesting to you please see Paul for more details.
