Bravo, Bruce, and congratulations.=A0 I know how much work you have done as=20=
the=20
anchor of all these efforts.=A0 The meeting with the Chancellor is a big=20
opportunity.
If we are working with Riptide - and I assume we are - we should get their=20
input.   They have expertise.
Re: composition of meeting with Chancellor
I think Bruce should check with the Chancellor re number, composition,=A0 Wo=
uld=20
it be more effective to have people who the Chancellor knows thru their=20
emails or introduce new folks. I agree folks at the meeting should represent=
,=20
as best as possible, elementary, middle and high schools; parents, teachers,=
=20
and administrators, students; more than one borough; a racial mix, etc.=A0 =20=
 I=20
suggest 2 students as well; they are what all of this is about. Since all=20
PENNY schools can't be represented and to get the broadest representation of=
=20
schools, I believe we should only have l representative per school.
I agree that the preponderance should be parents.
Re: aim of meeting
formation of progressive schools in networks with a supportive supervisor
change of programs into schools
waivers (but if pushed, want the freedom to adapt core curriculum to our own=
=20
style, cultures and current curriculum)
Focus of meeting:=A0 we are the successful schools he is talking about, how=20=
can=20
we help him, encourage him to visit various PENNY schools
primarily on our need for networks of PENNY schools within new districts,=20
under supportive administrators
recognition of progams as autonomous schools
liasons to work with at the DOE a new idea and a good one.
Re: composition of meeting
I would work toward a wide representation so only l per school - PLUS=20
students
Those at the meeting should be able to clearly articulate our demands (we=20
don't have to call them that) and WHY they are essential
Re: written documentation for meeting
Since the meeting should not focus on particular schools but on what we need=
,=20
it is crucial to have a list of all the PENNY schools, descriptions of each,=
=20
and list of proposed networks including a spreadsheet with demographics,=20
address, contact numbers, leader's name, PA president, and documentation of=20
the successful track record of progressive schools using varied assessment=20
of=A0 such success i.e parent participation, attendance, low level of=20
suspensions, teacher absence ?, teacher educational background, mobility.=
=A0=A0=20
The descriptions should be fairly uniform in terms of length and what they=20
address. The list should indicate clearly which programs need to be declared=
=20
schools.
Whoever is in the delegation to Klein need to meet before. My place is=20
available for a meeting.
Re:=A0 a rally on March 26.
We should get Riptide input on whether there should be a rally on March 26=20
and if a rally, what should be the thrust of it (demands, celebration of our=
=20
schools).=A0 This should be an area of their expertise.
It is crucial to know how many we are expecting.=A0 If it is a small group,=20=
I=20
don't believe it will be helpful given the possible meeting with the=20
Chancellor.
