Helen Santiago was deputy superintendent in District 3 before she became
Sup't of District 1. She is smart, thoughtful, and was a strong supporter
of progressive middle schools in District 3, one of the few administrators
I've met who understood the distinctive needs of early adolescents and what
middle schools need to do to meet those needs.
Thanks, Carol, for that full description of the PENNY demonstration
yesterday. I hope someone is archiving and keeping these emails. In the
future, this could be a very interesting history of the growth of a movement.
