Our SLT is composed of equal numbers of parents and staff. Our hiring committees are always composed of parents and staff.  Both groups have weight. Our work is collaborative. The Parent Coordinator should also be hired collaboratively. The person selected MUST be someone with whom the parents feel comfortable and safe and with whom they can work closely and well and with whom the staff can work closely and well in order  for the job to have depth and meaning. It behooves both the parents and school leader to find someone in whom both groups have confidence. If the situation at a school is so polarized that this is cannot be the case, something is wrong and the underlying situation needs to be repaired.
