[ProgressiveEd] Re: ProgressiveEd digest, Vol 1 #111 - 2 msgs

As PTA Co-Chair I was asked to sit on the hiring committee (for Parent
Coordinator) and help recruit other parents to do the same. I agree
that we (parents) should positively influence this process.
BUT the Parent Coordinator position is in conflict with enlisting
parents in the PTA. Potentially, parents interested in getting involved
will be competing for this paid position instead of signing on for a
(volunteer) PTA position. Some schools have precious few involved
parents as it is. Ideally the new Parent Coordinators (and now we hear
that there might not be 1 PC per school but a PC assigned to each
school cluster!) will encourage parent participation, but isn't this
what the PTA's should be doing?
Any other ideas regarding this?
