The Baccalaureate School for Global Education provides a world-class educational experience aligned with the frameworks and standards of the International Baccalaureate Program. We expect all students who successfully complete our course of study to be prepared for the International Baccalaureate diploma. The International Baccalaureate Program is a rigorous college preparatory course of study that meets the needs of highly motivated secondary school students. The IB diploma allows graduates to fulfill requirements of national education systems worldwide, incorporating the best elements of each. Only schools authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization are eligible to issue IB certificates or diplomas. As a new school, the Baccalaureate School for Global Education is not yet accredited by IBO, but in consultation with International Baccalaureate North America (IBNA) we have begun the implementation phase of the Middle Years Program.

BSGE is a Professional Development Laboratory school whose faculty engages in continuous research and learning. The school is based on a vision of teaching as professional practice that is evidence-based, collegial and inquiry-oriented with a focus on how students learn best.
The school provides an environment that supports learning throughout the school community and creates collaborative partnerships in which university and school faculty design opportunities for student and faculty learning.

• Qualify students for superior post-secondary opportunities in the U.S. or oversea

Middle Years Program
(MYP) Grades 7-10
The MYP prepares students for both the Diploma Program and the New York State Regents Exams. Eight subject groups form the curricular framework:

• Language A -- English
• Language B -- a modern foreign language (Currently, Spanish and Chinese are offered')
• Mathematics -- spans algebra, geometry, trigonometry, probability, and statistics
• Sciences -- general science, biology, chemistry, and physics
• Humanities -- history ad geography
• Technology -- the nature, processes and impacts of technology
• Arts -- visual arts, music and dram
• Physical Education- health and hygiene, individual and team sports
  

The MYP also integrates five Areas of Interaction across the disciplines:

Approaches to Learning -- examines habits that support reasoning and reflection in all endeavors.

Community and Service -- nurtures community in school and society.

Environment -- builds awareness of the impact of people on their natural and social surroundings.

Health and Social Education -- develops habits that encourage healthy living and social interaction

Homo Faber (the genius of humans) -- concerns the creative and inventive genius of people throughout history.

Diploma Program
The Diploma Program (Grades 11-12) is an advanced course of study leading to examinations in six core academic areas:

• English
• Second Modern Language
• Individuals and Societies
• Experimental Sciences
• Mathematics
• Arts and Technology

Assessments include external examinations, student portfolios, and projects students select for evaluation. Diploma candidates must also satisfy three special features included in their program:

• Theory of Knowledge -- challenges students to question the bases of knowledge, to be aware of ideological biases, and to develop modes of thought based on analysis of evidence and rational argument.
• Creativity-Action-Service -- encourages students to share their energies and talents outside of the classroom while developing awareness, concern, and the ability to cooperate with others.
• Extended Essay -- An extended essay of 4,000 words offers students the opportunity to investigate a topic of special interest and acquaints them with the independent research and writing skills expected at the university level.
