WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE

We've studied Hamlet and other pieces of his work but how much do we really know about the greatest writer in the English language, William Shakespeare? This activity will help you to become more knowledgeable about Shakespeare the writer, the man and the times in which he lived.

THE GAME

This is what you will do:

RESEARCH

1. Divide the class into 4 groups.

3. Print out this worksheet and make copies for all group members. (Or, get your copies from the teacher.)

4. Check out the links listed below (and any others you discover) on the Internet.

5. Write down 10 interesting facts you wish to share and where you found it. Each person must have a copy. (Place the number next to the site address listed below.)

JIGSAW SHARING

1. Distribute yourselves at different tables so that there are representatives from each group.

2. Read your facts and let the others in the group take notes about what you say. (Since there are 4 groups, everyone should end up with approximately 40 facts. There is also likely to be some overlap.)

 

TEAM PRACTICE

1. Choose a captain for your team and also a team name.

2. Study all the facts about Shakespeare.

 

PLAYING THE GAME

1. The teacher will collect a set of facts from one of the players. This will be used to ask questions to the contestants.

2. The team captain will choose a member to represent each team. The representative will compete by answering the question put to him/her by the teacher. After each round, the captain chooses a new representative.

3. Teams will be paired and form Division 1 and Division 2. Each Division will compete separately.

4. The 2 winning teams in Division 1 and 2 will go to playoffs.
