OUR REACTIONS TO 9/11

Susan Mondzak started Teen Talk Productions in 1991 with guidance provided by Edward A. Reynolds, the Principal of West Side High School ( of the NYC Alternative Schools Superintendency). Teen Talk was originally sited at 127th/ Park Ave. within PRACA, an OES site at IS 201. What originally was a basic video and radio program that had limited access to the public, has grown to a program that has 'live' teen radio on Tuesdays and Thursdays broadcast from WNYE 91.5 FM and taped teen radio shows broadcast from WHCR 90.3 FM on Mondays. TEEN TALK TV is a monthly teen-driven topical discussion show on Ch.25 WNYE and is viewed in the Tri-state area (home to 20 million people).

Teen Talk has 4 components, the primary program 'TEEN TALK RADIO / TV' being centered at WNYE. This internship program, with 12 interns from West Side HS and Offsite Educational Services, produces the TV shows, 2 radio shows per month and 4 video productions per year. A media class at West Side HS produces 'TEEN VIEWS On The News' which is aired live twice a month on WNYE FM. 'TEEN TALKOn The Move' travels between 5 different high schools and produces 15 live radio shows per year. 'On The Move' also produces 3 taped shows from Island Academy at Rikers Island.

What we feel makes TEEN TALK PRODUCTIONS different from many other media projects for teens is that ALL productions are student-driven. Students are the source of the topics that evolve into radio and TV shows. Students do the research, choose the guests, write the questions and make it happen. We have won 'PASS' Awards for Teen Media, radio and TV competitions, for the past 2 years. What makes us really proud is the number of Teen Talk students who became communications/media majors in college and have found success.

Teen Talk is devoted to giving a meaningful and powerful radio/media voice to urban 'at risk'youth. All of our students are from the NYC Alternative Schools Superintendency and attend one of over 100 alternative schools or sites. Teen Talk Productions is sponsored by West Side High School(WSHS) and Off Site Educational Services(OES) which also are the schools from where the 12 Teen Talk interns come from.
