EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Students participating in extracurricular activities are considered representatives of the School and, therefore, their conduct is expected to be exemplary.

Participation in these activities is to be considered an elective activity and, therefore, a privilege. The primary function of Wings Academy centers on individual classroom effort and the growth of each student.

TO PARTICIPATE IN ANY EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITY OR INTERSCHOLASTIC SPORT STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO PASS ALL SUBJECTS DURING THE PREVIOUS AND CURRENT TEN WEEK MARKING PERIOD.

Academic Expectations

In order to aid students in meeting the requirements of the above stated Board of Education policy, academic expectations have been developed:

1. Student/Athletes are expected to put forth-reasonable effort and demonstrate appropriate behavior in school to achieve the academic goals set forth by the New York City Board of Education and Wings Academy. Should a student athlete experience difficulty the following procedures should be followed:

  • Contact coach

  • A meeting with the teacher, coach, and student/athlete will take place. An academic plan will be established for a period of 2 weeks.

  • Parental contact by the teacher

  • After 2 weeks if there is no improvement the teacher will contact the Athletic Director. The Athletic Director will contact the student/athletes Advisor who will survey all the students teachers. The Athletic Director will review the data and decide whether to convene the Academic/Athletic Review Committee. The Athletic Director will contact the appropriate administrator to convene the committee.

  • A meeting of the Academic/Athletic Review Committee (coach, athletic director, teacher, counselor, and administrator) will be held to determine the extent to which the student may or may not participate in the athletic program.
